Arne Spangereid

Arne Spangereid
Arne Spangereid is a Norwegian artist known for his unique blend of classical techniques and contemporary expression. His playful interior scenes draw from the old masters, impressionism, and cartoon art, often featuring unexpected elements like robots and rubber toys.
Fascinated by contrasts and paradoxes, he combines delicate brushwork with rough tools such as squeegees and spatulas. By mixing abstract forms with detailed imagery, he explores the tension between chaos and order.
Spangereid trained under master oil painter Nelson Shanks in the United States, portraitist Truls Dahl in Norway, and artist-curator Ray Spiteri in Malta. These international influences have shaped a distinctive style that merges realism with abstraction.
Originally focused on cityscapes in Oslo and New York, his artistic path shifted in 2022 with the creation of the Disruption series. These imaginative interiors explore the balance between seriousness and playfulness, inviting the viewer into an open-ended visual story.
